Location

Ffordd Newydd is located in the small friendly community of Skewen within the picturesque Neath Valley & mountains.  Situated just 1 mile from Neath town centre and 2 miles from the M4 Motorway, Ffordd Newydd is a very accessible property.

Accommodation

Ffordd Newydd has 6 flatlets all with en-suite facilities.  This new development of tracscare gives clients the chance for increased independence whilst maintaining a level of support from staff if required, 24 hours a day.  Rooms are furnished to a high standard with carpet throughout.

Client Group

Ffordd Newydd can support 6 clients with varied Mental Health needs, such as anxiety disorder, depression and post acute psychosis.  We will provide therapeutic support for clients following discharge from acute hospital admissions and for clients who require additional support to regain, maintain and develop their living skills within the community.

Activities

Ffordd Newydd is central to Skewen, and central to the local facilities including restaurants, bars and cafes.  Also there is the local semi-professional rugby team of Skewen nearby.  Neath town centre is a 10 minute bus journey away to a host of shops and historical sites including a Monastery and Canal.

Staff

All staff will have received a Mental Health induction course prior to commencing employment at the Home, specific to Ffordd Newydd.  This covers psychosis, manic depression, neurosis obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety disorder, depression, self harm, suicide, drugs and alcohol abuse. All statutory training requirements are filled within Alkare extensive internal training programme.  This includes an induction programme, foundation training, first aid, food hygiene and a 1-day course entitled understanding the Service User’s perspective.  Staff are also given the opportunity to attend external courses where relevant.  On going training is provided i.e. Studio lll on low arousal approaches, this is initially in the form of a 3-day course and followed up with annual refreshers.  Many staff will have completed or are working towards their NVQ’s in Care.

Clinical

Ffordd Newydd is registered with the Care and Social Services Inspectorate for Wales (CSSIW), as a residential care Home for 6 adults with Mental Health Needs aged 18-65.
