
Hazeldene is situated on a quiet road in Morriston, a residential area of Swansea. The home is 2 miles from Junction 45 of the M4 Motorway, 3 miles from Swansea City Centre and 4 miles from the coast and walking distance to local shops.
Hazeldene is located next door to another tracscare Home, Homeleigh. Hazeldene has 7 bedrooms, of which there are 2 ground floor rooms (one with ensuite facilities) and a ground floor toilet & shower room. Hazeldene has a large kitchen with dining area and a large lounge. There is also a conservatory, and an external smoking shed.
Hazeldene provides accommodation for 7 adults with multi-diagnosis but predominantly, brain injury and dual diagnosis. Client opinion is crucial to the decision making processes and running of the home and inclusion is a main aspect of the homes philosophy of care. Clients hold and attend monthly residents meetings based on their own agenda.
Activities available at Hazeldene include swimming, day trips out (e.g. to the coast and Brecon Beacons), BBQ's and social evenings such as our monthly Foods from around the world night, we also interact with other tracscare Homes, which enables everyone to get together and catch up. "Local colleges offer a wide range of interactive home based courses such as word processing, English/ language, art classes." (Client Comment) Activities are dependent on individual preferences and there is an emphasis on reflecting ordinary life e.g. leisure, vocational, domestic.
On average, 4 staff are on duty each day at Hazeldene, with sleep night staff support at night. All staff receive extensive internal training supplemented by relevant external courses. Staff receive in-depth training and on-going support on low arousal techniques, which are at the core of tracscare care philosophy. Training is outlined in more detail on the Staff Page.
All clients at Hazeldene are registered with a local GP. Clients have access to tracscareClinical Support Nurse plus consultant input in the areas of psychiatry, psychology, speech therapy, drama therapy on an individual needs basis. Clients may also join in TRACS' Brain Injury Group (refer to James St). "Staff also check people are well and in good health." (Client Comment)
The philosophy of Hazeldene is to support and enable our clients towards independent living skills, i.e. doing their own food shopping, using public transport, being trusted with money and self medicating. (Client Comment). The home's care policy is outlined fully within tracscare Care Policy. "Our home is warm, friendly and inviting, everyone gets on well with everyone else. If any of us require or need anything, we only have to ask. The staff are UNIQUE in our home because, they are all good at their jobs and take thing seriously when necessary, but also know when to relax and have a laugh, which is a really good quality."
