Learning Disability with Challenging Behaviour/Complex Needs

The term Challenging Needs are widely used to describe a range of problems and disorders where there is impairment to one or more of the basic psychological processes, involving understanding and communication, which can often lead to emotional disturbances and associated behaviour. Learning Disability can range from mild to profound, creating very different care needs for the individual. In more profound cases, ongoing support may be required throughout the individual's life. Learning Disabilities can be caused by events that take place before or during birth and sometimes as a result of early events in childhood, such as illness. There are a number of illnesses, neurological conditions and disorders, which may be genetic, where the symptoms may create a learning difficulty. Some of these are described below.

tracscare offers support to clients with a Challenging Behaviour across 9 homes in England and Wales. Our care Homes offer a homely environment in different styled settings, far away from the noise and distraction of city life but well within the heart of their local communities. This provides the clients with a peaceful environment but close to local facilities.

The standard of care at tracscare is very high, delivered by a team of dedicated staff. Our care includes an experienced team of staff, qualified or working towards NVQ level qualifications, a high staffing ratio in each home and a professional service with the client’s needs, wishes and aspirations at the forefront of the care provided. Staff training is specific to each home, but based upon positive approaches to challenging needs. Each Home is supported by a tracscare Behaviour Advisor who is involved in the development of the Reactive Management or Behaviour Support plan and supports staff on the floor to work positively when challenges arise. and each staff member is given a client profile to study before each client arrives. Each client is given a life-impact assessment upon entry, to see the impact of their Challenging Needs on their daily life. Then an individual care plan is created for each client. This unique care plan is designed for the client to progress within a residential care environment, and reach their maximum potential.
