Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)

At tracscare a rounded staff team help individuals with acquired brain injuries (ABI) to rehabilitate and manage their illness in a positive and productive manner. Our caring approach also focuses on both our clients and their families to deliver and reach achievable goals.

Acquired Brain Injuries

Sometimes individuals may suffer a traumatic event such as a road traffic accident: or have an illness in childhood or later life, which might cause damage to the brain, affecting communication skills, severe memory impairment, social dis-functioning and in some cases, affect mobility. Individuals with these types of brain injuries may have difficulty controlling, coordinating and communicating their thoughts and actions but they usually retain their intellectual abilities. Acquired Brain Injuries have dramatically varied effects and therefore varies between individuals with their abilities and problems. An Acquired Brain injury has dramatically varied effects and therefore varies between Individual abilities and Needs.

Individuals with an Acquired Brain Injury may be able to lead very independent lives but in profound cases, there is a high dependency on social support.

Our Brain Injury Service and Support

tracscare have 13 homes, ranging from 3 bedrooms to 11 bedroom homes in England and Wales dedicated to supporting the complex needs of individuals with an Acquired Brain Injury. tracscare have homes designed to meets the needs of clients with Acquired Brain Injuries, which includes those with a Physical Disability or those who are Mobility Impaired. tracscare also provide care for adults with Korsakoff’s Syndrome.

Clients are able to live in homes specific to their diagnosis, with room’s tailoured to their requirements and individual taste. Clients are empowered within each home by being actively involved in the decision making of the running of their homes.

All clients who come into tracscare undergo a comprehensive assessment of their Acquired Brain Injury, to establish the cognitive impairment that they are currently experiencing. The assessment of the clients’ abilities and deficits allows the care plan to be specifically developed and allows progress to be accurately measured. The development of the clients care plan follows the assessment and focuses on a program of activities that enables the relearning of previous skills and the acquisition of new skills where possible, or focuses on compensatory strategies to reduce the impact of these deficits upon the clients’ daily living. The aim of the assessment and care plan is always to enable the client to achieve as high a degree of independence as possible.

Our Brain Injuries Support Team

Staff deliver the best possible care in our specialist brain injury homes, and receive a thorough training program, constantly updated in line with training needs and legislation. The training focuses on an understanding of Acquired Brain Injury and associated conditions. Delivering the best possible care requires staff to complete a range of training including an Individual Training Needs Assessment, Self-Auditing, Mandatory training and positive approaches to challenging needs. Staff are also encouraged to seek external training and many staff already hold NVQ qualifications and continue to achieve higher levels. Planned training, a wealth of experience and a high staffing ratio combine to form a team in each Home delivering quality care to clients with Acquired Brain Injury.

tracscare are experienced at providing positive residential care and rehabilitation for clients with an Acquired Brain Injury who have experienced placement breakdowns.
