tracscare - Westholme

Location

Westholme is situated in a leafy suburb location, in a quiet residential street, close to the village centres of Moseley and Kings Heath, where there are numerous shops, restaurants and entertainment. The Home is just a short bus ride away from Birmingham City centre, which offers a good variety of facilities. Westholme is a spacious 3 storey Victorian building, set in large gardens There are plenty of parks nearby including, Moseley Bog (inspirational to JRR Tolkien for Lord of the Rings) and Moseley Private Park to name but two. Hilltop, a sister Home to Westholme occupies the second (top) floor of the building.

Accommodation

Westholme is situated on the ground and first floor of the house with ten single bedrooms; four bedrooms have en-suite facilities. There is also a separate ground floor bathroom, separate toilet and a further shared bathroom on the first floor, with toilet. There is also a shower room with toilet.  Westholme has a large lounge, dining room, smoking room and a large kitchen with lowered worktop for wheelchair users. Client Group

Westholme currently provides support for 9 adults with mixed ability, either with a learning disability or brain injury. Consideration will be given to a wheelchair user on an individual basis.

Activities

At Westholme, staff ensure that a wide range of in house activities are available to clients, including memory games and quiz nights. Externally, clients can attend Headway, Cocksmoor Wood Leisure Centre pool and gym and a local Head Injuries Club. Nearby is the Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Midlands Art Centre and Cocksmoor Leisure Centre. Within the City of Birmingham, major entertainment events take place at the Symphony Hall, NIA and NEC. The city also has three main theatres, the Alexander Theatre, The Birmingham Hippodrome and the Birmingham Repertory Theatre as well as the Midlands Arts Centre.

Staff

Westholme have a very dedicated and hardworking care team whose priority is the clients and their well being. The Home is striving to achieve all staff being qualified to NVQ II. Westholme staff receive extensive internal training, supplemented by relevant external courses. In particular, staff receive in-depth training and on-going support on low arousal techniques, which are at the core of tracscare care philosophy. Care

Westholme has a warm and friendly atmosphere. Westholmes philosophy is to offer a consistent high standard of care on an individual basis. Clients are encouraged to live a fulfilled life and are supported when necessary to achieve this. Giving the clients a choice and enabling them to decide for themselves helps to develop a sense of worth, self-esteem and confidence. The client's family are invited to participate in and oversee the care plans on offer, also the family / friends are encouraged to give constructive feedback regarding existing plans. The clients are involved in the decision making within the home, be it decoration, menu planning, planning activities, interviewing new staff. The staffing team is dedicated, hard working and committed to providing a high level of care. The home's care policy is outlined fully within tracscare Care Policy.

Clinical

On site support is provided by tracscare Clinical Support Nurse and monthly meeting with Consultant Psychiatrist for medication review. Other clinical consultancy can be accessed on a needs basis such as Psychology and Behavioural therapy. Westholme is registered for 9 adults with Learning Difficulty or Brain Injury, plus a further 4 at Hilltop, by the Commission for Social Care and Inspection (CSCI).
