Location

Bryn Irfon is situated in the quiet town of Llanwrtyd Wells, in Mid Wales. Originally a Spa Town, it has a population of 600 people and is in the Guinness Book of Records as the smallest town in Britain. The area around Bryn Irfon is called the 'Heart of Wales', with countryside only a minutes walk away. Despite its size, Llanwrtyd Wells has its own railway station and a number of small businesses including the post office, paper shop, butcher, spa, 5 pubs, 4 restaurants and a horse riding centre. Llanwrtyd Wells hosts both the World Conker Championships and the World Bog Snorkelling Championship. Llanwrtyd Wells is also famous for its Redkite breed, saved from extinction 30 years ago.

Accommodation

In line with the National Minimum Standards, Bryn Irfon has recently reduced the number of bedrooms to 8. All bedrooms are single occupancy, with ample toilets, bathrooms and washbasins. Bryn Irfon has a large comfortable lounge, with TV and video facilities; a large dining room and bright sunny conservatory, for clients to relax. Clients also have TV's in their bedrooms where appropriate. The Home has a designated smoking area; it operates a no smoking policy elsewhere in the House. Outside, there is a sun patio, situated in large landscaped gardens. Bryn Irfon prides itself on its warm, friendly environment.

Client Group

Bryn Irfon offers care to adults of varying age and with varying disabilities, including learning difficulties, challenging needs and clients with communication difficulties.

Activities

Bryn Irfon encourages clients to fully participate in activities that are available in the local community which include: cinema, pubs, takeaways (Chinese, chip shop, kebab houses) and restaurants. Llanwrtyd Wells has many annual events such as: the Man versus Horse competition, a Beer festival, animal shows, Morris Dancing, Mountain Bike Festival, Drovers Walks, rallies and local carnivals. Its rural location is ideal for walking and cycling. The staff at Bryn Irfon also ensure that there are a wide range of in-house activities available, subject to clients choice, which include: games & puzzles, videos, music, TV and outside, gardening tennis, badminton or volleyball plus much more. There is a local college and leisure centre.

Staff

Bryn Irfon has a staff team of 20: 4 senior staff, 10 full time support workers and 6 part time support workers. During the main hours of daytime, the Home has 5 - 7 staff on duty and evening cover is 4 staff minimum. Night cover is usually 1 sleep night and 1 wake night staff. Many of the staff team at Bryn Irfon have worked at the Home for several years. All staff receive extensive training which includes in-depth training and on-going support on low arousal techniques, which are at the core of tracscare care philosophy. Training is outlined in more detail on the Staff Page. Staff are trained in 'sign-a-long' to support clients with communication difficulties.

Care

Bryn Irfon's care philosophy is to treat people in the same way as you would wish to be treated yourself: with respect and dignity. Bryn Irfon maintains a healthy staff team, who offer, positive support for clients and provides quality client / keyworker time. Clinical

All clients are registered with a local GP, Nurse and Dentist. Clients have access to tracscare Clinical Support Nurse plus consultant input in the areas of psychiatry, psychology, speech therapy, drama therapy on an individual needs basis.
